Local Plan for the Cotswolds

As many of us will be aware, Cotswold District Council has been asked to put together a local housing plan which needs to deliver 18,500 new homes across the Cotswolds by 2043. Initial proposals have targeted villages immediately outside the conservation area, Poulton among them. However, Poulton seems to be getting off lightly compared to the proposed 600 houses in Ampney Crucis and extensive developments earmarked for Driffield, Preston and Down Ampney. In addition, towns like Fairford and Moreton-in-Marsh are facing increasing housing pressure on already over-burdened infrastructures.

Cotswold District leader, Cllr Mike Evemy has written a letter to Government, relaying the anger local residents feel about the proposed plans. Poulton Parish Council have also made detailed representation to COtswold District Council

Poulton Speedwatch

After the successful campaign, led by Parish Councillor Ed Hyslop, to raise awareness about speeding through Poulton, there are now three static cameras in place around the village, together with an average speed check zone and enhanced signage, which is a well-known deterrent to speeding drivers.  We are working closely with Gloucestershire Police, who have issued letters to persistent offenders speeding through Poulton, and as a result of our monitoring, the Police have now increased the frequency of manned mobile speed camera attendance in the village, resulting in enforcement action, including fines and penalty points issued to offenders.

We continue to monitor speeding in the village, and while speeding is most definitely still a major problem for our village, we are delighted that we have seen a 50% reduction in speeders as a result of these initiatives. helping to make the village a safer and more pleasant place to live.

Jeremy Cluckson

It appears a menace in the shape of a black cockerel has been terrorising the village, with its early-morning alarm calls and dangerous road crossings, threatening the tranquillity and peace of this quiet haven. Although several attempts have been made to track down its owners, no one has come forward to claim the clucky little monster. It's exuberant cries have even been said to drown out the jets taking off from the local airbase - perhaps something for the Guinness Book of Records?

Despite his boisterous behaviour and antisocial tendencies, some have grown used to and even perhaps a little fond of Jeremy Cluckson, with his dashing good looks and his devil-may-care attitude.

So, the village will continue to live alongside this newcomer until such time as he becomes a casualty of the London Road and is food for Red Kites, or until someone decides he's just about oven-ready.
